Title 24
is the Energy Efficiency Standards for residential and nonresidential
buildings that were established in 1978 in response to a legislative
mandate to reduce California's energy consumption (see www.energy.ca.gov/title24).
The California Building Code establishes building energy efficiency
standards for new construction (including requirements for
entire new buildings, additions, alterations and repairs).
The Standards are updated periodically to allow incorporation
of new energy efficiency technologies and methods. Listed
below are the requirements for submittal to the Town's building
department in order to review a new structure, addition, etc.:
The CF-1R and
MF-1R forms must be reproduced and signed by the document preparer
and owner or project architect/designer on the plans. Also, two
additional 8½" x 11" copies must be submitted and
signed (see Note below).
- All features
which are part of the project must be checked off on the MF-1R
form (Mandatory Measures Checklist).
- Indicate
the proposed insulation (with R-value rating) for ceilings/roofs,
walls and raised floors.
- For windows,
skylights and glass doors:
- Indicate
whether single or dual pane, metal
or wood frame.
- If the
glass is not clear or has a non-standard U-value, indicate
the glass make and model.
- Provide
dimensions of all glazing facing heated space.
- Specify interior
and/or exterior window shading devices if special credit is taken
in the energy calculations.
- Indicate
the location of any space heating system referenced in the CF-1R
forms.
- Indicate
weather-stripping at all doors which separate conditioned from
unconditioned space.
- Note heat
duct insulation if more than min. R 2.1.
- Indicate
the materials, thickness and location of thermal mass elements
if energy credit is being taken.
- Indicate
the type of lamps used in applicable light fixtures at the kitchen
and bathrooms to show compliance with lighting efficiency requirements.
- Indicate
that each fireplace will be equipped with required features: Tight
fitting doors, outside air intake with damper, and flue damper.
NOTE: If the
complete energy document (Title-24) analysis is reproduced
on the plans, the above-mentioned 8½" x 11"
copies need not be submitted.
