Sudden Oak Death

Sudden Oak Death (SOD) has caused widespread loss of several tree species in California and recently has affected many trees in the Portola Valley and Woodside areas.

A good single source of information about SOD is California Oak Mortality Task Force.

The Town, through its Conservation and Environmental Health Committee, has been involved in "SOD-Blitzes", in which people are asked to take samples of Bay tree leaves to help confirm the spread of the SOD disease.  This program is run through U.C. Berkeley Forest Pathology and Mycology Laboratory.
